Hmm, I don’t know what to say about Bolivia. I was only in the south where the landscape is truly striking. What comes to mind when I think about Bolivia are beautiful landscapes, colorful clothes, odd little hats, small people, poor, and people who puke out of bus windows. I had heard about the pukers. Bolivians are evidently known for puking on bus rides. I can attest to that as well. I can’t remember how long the journey was, but on one bus ride the guy in front of me puked out the window at alarmingly regular intervals. Bolivia is also the only country (outside the US) that I have puked in. This country broke my 16 year no-puke record. I ate peanuts from a shell and of course realized, yes, they’re from the ground and no doubt tainted with fecal matter. That brought Bolivia to a halt for me and back I went to luxurious Argentina.
The La Quiaca – Villazon
border was filled with
Bolivians transporting 50kilo
sacks from Argentina into Bolivia.
The sacks weighed more than
some of these people!

Home of the yummy empanadas. Nope, no photos of them – they disappeared from plates too quickly.

Most of the time was spent in Buenos Aires, although Kristofer and I did spend 10 days in Patagonia in the Glacier National Park and a couple weeks in the very north in and around Salta.

I managed to do just about everything I wanted to. Carnival in Rio, the colonial towns around Diamantina, the capitol Brasilia, 3 weeks in the Amazon, a few days on the beaches between Fortaleza and Recife, and a visit to Iguassu Falls on both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides.

This is actually really cool. Started in Belem, visited a research center to figure out how I could really see the Amazon, hopped aboard a couple boats and ended up at a research station along a tributary in the interior for a week. Heaven.
Poisonous Dart Frogs
(touching one of the Columbian
variety has enough venom
to kill 10 people – these
aren’t that lethal!).
Incredible Amazon scenery.
Can’t see it here,
but lots of forest destruction
(logging, agriculture, etc).
