I managed to do just about everything I wanted to. Carnival in Rio, the colonial towns around Diamantina, the capitol Brasilia, 3 weeks in the Amazon, a few days on the beaches between Fortaleza and Recife, and a visit to Iguassu Falls on both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides.

This is actually really cool. Started in Belem, visited a research center to figure out how I could really see the Amazon, hopped aboard a couple boats and ended up at a research station along a tributary in the interior for a week. Heaven.

This is the only city I was pick pocketed in, but I chased the guy down and got my bag back. Yes, I was at the beach, yes, I was drinking a caipirinha, yes, it was the day I arrived, yes, my bag contained my money, camera and passport. I broke all the smart traveler rules, and that was just the first day of more.
