Heather
Who the heck is Heather? And what’s she doing traveling the world?
I tell many I was born at a young age and have been getting older ever since. As I’ve gotten older many weird and wonderful things have happened along the way. My curiosity remains strong and I rarely accept what’s told to me. I’m a visual, experiential kind of person. You can tell me things ’til the cows come home and I can recite it all back to you, but nothing is memorable to me until I experience it. I will in fact have to see it to believe it.
I’d like to say first that none of this is my fault. I grew up in Los Angeles where anything is possible and if it isn’t crazy it isn’t worth paying attention to. I’d like to say I’m a product of my environment. That mixed with my innate curiosity and downright doggedness to get to the bottom of things has lead me down a very colorful path.
What are the environmental factors? Where I lived? In LA for 20 years, Boston for 2, Seattle for 4, Sweden for 2, London for half, France for half, Germany for 3 and a half, and now I currently reside in the South. My profession? I studied to become a professional violinist and pulled the plug on that mid-way through college to become a carnivorous capitalist in the world of technology management. What I enjoy? All kinds of music, fine food, colors, clean air, peaceful and chaotic settings, people with interesting backgrounds, sincerity, tennis, and horseback riding,. I like to mix it up, what can I say?
I traveled about half the time alone. Gasp! Yes, it’s true. I am actually quite good company even for myself. More than any other question, I am most asked how I could travel by myself – how could it be safe! Well I will tell you now it wasn’t. In only 2 countries – Mongolia and the US. Those were the only countries with physical life endangerment. Mongolia because of a lawless police system and the US in New Orleans where truly by the grace of God I wasn’t gunned down. I felt entirely comfortable in every other country I visited. People make all the difference.
My time of ongoing travels is over, but I will continue to explore and share stories and photos as I go. The journey never really ends.
